Eat your Wheaties

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. That's what I was always told as a kid. I never knew why and no one ever cared enough to educate me on the facts behind this statement. For the longest time I always assumed it had to do with nutrition. I've now figured out the truth.
I'll be honest, I skipped breakfast today. As with most days I woke up late, showered, got dressed and ran out the door to work. I figured I would get sent on some simple story and have 5 minutes of spare time to swing by Dunkin's. Not today!
I ended up sitting around while Rachel made phone calls to all our local religious folks(Rapture story). One thing didn't lead to another so we left to go grab some MOS. I was happy to be heading out in the general direction of food. Then the phone rang. "Distressed boaters. Get to the lake!" Okay. Not the best directions. There's got to be 1,000 miles of shoreline on the lake. The phone rang again; "Never mind. Pull over and sit tight."
Score! I took the next exit off the interstate and put my foot down. I figured I could make it to Dunkin's Before they called back. Wrong again. Another ring of the phone and I reversed direction for an hour drive to Stowe for a structure fire.
I knew if I didn't get something to eat soon I wouldn't be a happy camper to be around. Then I remembered I always keep a spare granola bar in my bag. That's a lesson I learned long ago! Always have a snack in your bag.  So a full 4 1/2 hours after waking up and close to 16 since my last meal, I finally had something to eat.
So why is breakfast the most important meal of the day? Because in this job you never know what's going to get struck by lightening and ruin your lunch plans. So eat something before you go to work. You'll be glad you did.
