Hey Grads,

Sunday marked two years since I graduated college. In that time I've thankfully come to find myself employed in the field I got a degree in. I like to think the lessons I learned in college helped, such as; Whiskey + Cider = Delicious, how to ration three days of ramen and pasta to last me two weeks, and even a few things related to why I was there(TV News).
While the lessons I learned in college have stuck with me and actually helped me(go figure!), it took getting my feet dirty with a camera slung over my shoulder to really learn anything. I wont go off and preach like I've memorized the 'togs bible, I haven't. For a man who writes frequently I'm not the most avid reader. But over the past few weeks I got to thinking. "What if I could offer just the tiniest bit of advice for those that are now in the shoes I once was?"
Well I put some thought into it and came up with an awesome speech. I imagined I was up on my wooden soapbox surrounded by people hanging onto my every word, as if I was someone who knew what the hell he was talking about. Then I realized I don't have a soapbox, do they even make those anymore? So alas, my dreams of offering advice were dashed. How can one reach the masses without a box to shout from? The internet you say? Well, it's not as photogenic(trust me I've done stories were all I had was internet b-roll) but it does allow me to reach people around the world. Alright I'll give it a shot.
Grads,
Specifically Lyndon Grads,
First off congrats. Now to business, those of you who were the photogs, you're a reporter. Reporters, you're now photogs. To simplify... you're all now journalists.
Simple enough ain't it?
Producers... I've got nothing...
