Hurry up and wait!

As we stood in the gas station staring at the shelf full of potato chips and pretzels our hardest choice of the day was, Sour cream and onion, or plain ruffles? Honestly both are good but what goes better with spinach dip? Rachel and I were pre-planning our camping trip for the afternoon. You see, she and I had drawn the straw that said "Sit in a live truck until something happens." Alright, we didn't actually draw any straws, someone just told us to go do it.
I grabbed a large bag of the sour cream and onion, paid for it an a few drinks, and we high tailed it down the block to a waiting live truck. It was One something o'clock and we were now waiting for the First Lady to arrive, at six-ish. That meant a whole lot of sitting around.
I started getting bored rather fast so I quickly found things to do. Thursday is normally my day off and other people use "my" gear so I checked my kit to see what need what. One battery was dead, one half way there. I scoured the live truck for the battery charger and got that going so I could have some juice when the moment came to hit record. I had made sure to grab some P2's before leaving so I wasn't worried about that. Eventually I ran out of busy work and resigned myself to a chair in the back of the truck.
Then we waited.

At this point Rachel tried to close the passenger door to the truck and found it was stuck open. A call to the engineers and an hour later the door was stuck closed with post it notes saying  "DO. NOT. OPEN." We decided it would be a good time to grab some MOS interviews of people waiting to see Michelle.
Channel 5 eventually showed up and we all started waiting together.
At 5:30 we got word she was en-route to our location. 15 minutes later...
In 6 hours we had waited for less than one minute worth of video, done one live shot, ate a whole bag of chips as well as half a jar of dip. Still, It was a fun experience. I learned I need to invest in a small portable gas grill for burgers and dogs. A hammock might be a good idea as well.
